Working alongside HLM Architects, GreenBuild Consult was appointed at RIBA Stage 1 to provide BREEAM and general sustainability services.

Throughout the design development stage GreenBuild assisted the design process by undertaking Dynamic Simulation Modelling to enhance the design of the passive measures.

A particular analysis was undertaken on the façade, ensuring internal daylight levels were optimised, whilst mitigating any risk of over-heating.

GreenBuild also provided a BREEAM Pre-Assessment and Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) to ensure the scheme would satisfy BREEAM credit Mat01.

The general aim of the study was to ensure that the internal temperatures within the main stair core exceeding the recommended internal temperature range of 21-25C is around 3% of its occupied hours or less.

However, the main focus was on the most effective strategies to reduce overheating risks within the main staircase and prioritise these over less effective measures.

The thermal comfort strategies used focused on the glazing and ceramic fritting specification of the main stairs and the introduction of openings to encourage natural ventilation.
