GreenBuild Consult has successfully achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Interim certification for three new buildings, which are part of the Taff Vale regeneration scheme on the site of the former Taff Vale shopping centre in Pontypridd.

This is a strategically important scheme, which will revitalise the derelict Taff Vale site and will provide increased job opportunities; it will also help promote Pontypridd as a vibrant place in which to work, live and visit.

The mixed-use site will comprise three buildings; the first two will provide office space, and the third will be a gateway building to Pontypridd, which will include a new library, council contact point, together with a new leisure and fitness centre. Taff Vale has excellent public transport links being located in close proximity to the bus and train stations.

The team has undertaken a life cycle assessment of the proposed materials used in the building, which led to the selection of materials with a low environmental impact. The development’s green credentials will be enhanced with the provision of rainwater harvesting together with low water use sanitary facilities to reduce the water consumption.

The buildings will also benefit from the inclusion of low and zero CO2 technologies, including a CHP system and fuel cell technology; there will also be heat pumps and photovoltaic panels.

Commenting on the interim BREEAM assessment, William Jones, design manager at Willmott Dixon said:

GreenBuild Consult managed the whole BREEAM Process effectively and efficiently. Christine tracked and collated the required information in a way that was easy to understand for both us and our consultants, whilst offering us sound advice.

GreenBuild Consult where key to achieving our design stage certificates on time, and our Excellent BRE Rating on all Buildings. I would highly recommend GBC, and would have no hesitation appointing them on future projects.”

The project is scheduled to complete in 2020.
