Many people would have used this lockdown to increase their exposure to the outside world. By limiting our choice people have become more aware of what makes us happy…..Being outside.
Therefore, why wouldn’t we want to bring the outside in to the office?
Is Biophilic design the answer?
What is it?
“Biophilic design is a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions” Read more by clicking here.
Why is it good?
It creates a happier workplace, which in turn creates happy employees, which in turn improves long term productivity.
3 simple ways to bring biophilic design into the office:
- Plants – Here at GreenBuild, each employee has their own desktop plant. It brings nature in and is a talking point. The more greenery the better!
- Light – More specifically natural light. Do not block windows. Have as many people close to windows as possible. Use blinds to control glare.
- Natural Ventilation – Openable windows & trickle vents help to reduce the buildup of CO2
On top of these actions, encourage all staff members to take regular breaks from their screens and even get out of the office.
